What a wonderful week I had, camping, canoeing, a ton of cards, great food, walks, laughter and great conversations. We won't mention who won at cards!
Tuesday, we canoed down the Red Cedar River....on our way to Cornell, WI and the Brunet Island State Park. We tried stopping at Colfax, and A Little Slice of Italy....Anne Schieber's restuarant.....but it didn't open till 3 p.m. so we went to Jim Falls and ate at Randy's....From there it was just a short drive to the campsite, and Kathleen's friends Mary Graff and Allen Sill drove up from Eau Claire and had dinner with us. A beautiful evening sitting around the fire and Gary reading a Robert Service poem ended the day.
Wednesday hiked in the morning, and then spent the day dodging storms....well not exactly we kinda survived the first of three in the screenhouse with a tarp rapped around 2 sides...but left when the deluge had pretty much flooded us out. From there we headed to town to a little bar and sat and played cards all afternoon....and survived a tornado siren storm, but the food didn't look very good, so we moved about five miles north to a restuarant/bar where we continued to play cards, and eat dinner and waited out the third wave of storms....not getting back to the campsite till about 9:30 and then having a campfire and another great poem read by Gary.
Thursday the sun came out and we dried everything out....didn't do much other than playing cards most of the afternoon. Gary loved the Strawberry Shortcake he got the night before so much that we went back to the same place Thursday for another taste of it. We played some cards and then headed back to the campsite for a mini fire and another poem.
Friday morning we packed up slowly and meandered down to Chippewa Falls to the Leinny Lodge and tastes of Leinenkugel Beer.....from there we headed back to Colfax and Anne's restuarant and Gary's brother was on his way back home from MN, so he came and met us for dinner. We played more cards as we waited for him to get there, and visited with Anne and her partner Rick. Then we feasted on the most wonderful meal. Judy and I were a little calorie and allergy sensitive....so we had spaghetti served with great homemade bread and sausage....and Kathleen, Gary and his brother Pat shared a Chicago Style Pizza, and they all thought it was the best they had ever had. Anne's is a must stop for anyone going near....in fact it's worth going out of your way to. Gary even wrote a review for Yelp.com which you can go in and read in a week or two.
So you see I was quite busy all week.
I have to go back for chemo again this week....Dr. Londer changed his story, and said since I don't go to Mayo till Aug. 3, I might as well have another round for good measure!! I'm not thrilled about it, but I know he has my best interest at heart. I had meetings set up for Monday morning with the electric subcontractor and Wright-Hennepin Electric at 7 a.m. so my chemo won't be till Wednesday morning. The three of us have an evening soiree tonite, and will go back to the cabin tomorrow morning....and return sometime on Tuesday evening. I will have my computer, so I will add pictures tomorrow after we get there. I can't wait to see the changes they made this week while I was gone.
I hope this lengthy post makes up for the week of no notes. Love and prayers, m
