Left Athens this morning around 10 a.m. and headed towards Savannah....about a 6 hour drive. I think we saw maybe 2 gas stations (but not until after Judy was about ready to die she had to go to the bathroom so bad, and pulled off the road and let her go behind a bush!!) and not one restaurant the whole way till we got within a few miles of Savannah....but Gary was driving the back roads. Wow a lot of wilderness and poverty! Gary was surprised he didn't see more poverty and businesses closed, and I commented their weren't any to close.
Once we arrived we almost immediately headed into down after finding our hotel. A really super Super 8....probably the nicest one I've ever stayed in. In Savannah we headed to the Bonaventure Cemetery, but it was closing in 1/2 hour, so we only had a short time to walk through, hope we can maybe go back at some point, cause we didn't see all of it. Then we headed down towards the riverfront and found a great restaurant called "The Pink House" Had great reviews in "Yelp.com" Gary's bible when looking for a place to eat. It is a historical house an it was a great restaurant. Thanks Gary!! and Yelp! Had some fried green tomatoes, collard greens, crab cakes, along with pecan crusted chicken breast with a blackberry sauce drizzled over it and sweet potatoes with carmelized pecans on them. YUM, YUM!!
To top it off they had a big screen TV and Gary got to see the Packers beat the Vikes! We were surprised the Vikings did as well as they did.
After that we came back to the hotel and played cards....I got to have Gary as my partner and we won at spades as well as criss-cross.
We will go back downtown tomorrow and take a trolley tour, and have lunch at Mrs. Wilkes a old boarding house that it supposed to have great food. Do some more touring around town, and see what other interesting sites we can find.
I hope to write again tomorrow nite....love and prayers, m
